COMMUNITY RELATIONS

The Roche Bay Project will create many new opportunities for the Melville Peninsula’s Inuit communities. Advanced Explorations Inc. has worked to build real partnerships with regional stakeholders through open communication, political and social engagement and a vision to work together to achieve their long term aspirations of prosperity and development.

Most of the AEI staff for the exploration camp is hired locally and trained for a variety of duties. The strong relationship between the Inuit community and AEI is built on cultural exchange and embracing each other’s customs and traditions. For example, in 2008 Advanced Explorations sponsored the local Hunters & Trappers Association’s traditional whale hunt to feed the people of Hall Beach, Igloolik and Repulse Bay with our cook participating in the following ceremonial feast. In addition, the exploration camp often provides local hunters and community members passing through the area with a meal and a warm place to stay for the night. Several times, the team was also able to rescue community members and families who lost their way or were surprised by the harsh Arctic climate.

Ongoing communication and a strong cooperation on the community level enabled us to gain the support of local and territorial governments, who recognize that the project can not only provide sorely-needed jobs but also opens up broader potential to the region. Through the potential development of a core power, transportation and logistical infrastructure for the Melville Peninsula significant business opportunities arise.  

Our Nunavut engagement team is led by Okalik Eegeesiak (Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami) who has a proven record of working with Inuit organizations, government and business to achieve results in Nunavut.
